“The Russian Play” and “Essay” by Hannah Moscovitch will be presented this September as part of New Vintage Theatre’s Secret Theatre Project. The two one-acts, directed by Elana Bizovie, will run together each night from September 13-15 in a secret location in downtown Kelowna.
“The Russian Play” – Sonya, the flower-shop girl, narrates her own love story. She tells us about her love for the gravedigger, Piotr; his deception; and her attempt at a fresh start with the wealthy and well-connected factory owner, Kostya. Love, Stalin, and the secret police.
“…is Russian play. Some laughing, and then misery!”
“Essay” – After her essay proposal is rejected by teaching assistant, Jeffrey, Pixie goes to Professor Galbraith, head of the history department, to argue her case. The result is an impassioned confrontation between the three academics about the place of women in history.
